Thomson Reuters has released their first Top 100 Global Technology Leaders list to define new criteria for determining leadership in the 21st century. They’ve already been tracking tons of metrics on companies all around the world for their clients, and have decided to combine it all to create this new list. Thomson Reuters feels they’ve created a first-of-its-kind ranking methodology for the technology sector.

Spoiler: Microsoft ranked #1!

Here are the primary categories of data on companies that are factored into creating the list of the Top 100 Global Technology Leaders:

  • Management and Investor Confidence
  • Reputation
  • Environmental Responsibility
  • Social Responsibility
  • Legal Compliance
  • Risk of all types

Also, to narrow the list of companies evaluated to those making more of a significant difference is the initial criteria that to make the list a company is required to have at least $1 Billion in annual revenue. From all the companies that Thomson Reuters has evaluated, they’ve created this list of the Top 100 Global Technology Leaders.

Here’s the Top 10 ranking from the list for the Global Technology Leaders:

  1. Microsoft
  2. Intel
  3. Cisco Systems Inc
  4. Apple
  5. Alphabet Inc
  6. IBM
  7. Texas Instruments
  8. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing
  9. SAP
  10. Accenture

As you can see, Microsoft comes out on top at the #1 spot on the list. Even though I’m sure Apple would see themselves at #1, Thomson’s algorithm ranked Apple at #4. Another interesting fact, at least in the Cloud space, is that Amazon didn’t even make the Top 10.

Thomson Reuters does list out the rest of the 90 companies that made the list, but everyone beyond the Top 10 aren’t ranked. Regardless of ranking, each of the companies on this list deserve a big congratulations for making it on the list.

It’ll be interesting to see how the rankings change over the years, as Thomson Reuters continues to produce this new Top 100 Global Technology Leaders list next year and beyond.
